I have worked with Phil at ACE Insurance for a period of 14 months from March 2006 until May 2007. During this time we worked together on the IT programme essential for the delivery of a multi-million dollar, European-wide business re-engineering project which included the opening of a new back-office Greenfield site with capacity for 450 people.

Phil’s role involved identifying requirements, prioritising, planning, implementation and monitoring of the projects he was assigned. He was able to quickly bring structure and visibility to these projects. This was achieved by analysing each project, understanding the business requirements and setting the priorities accordingly.

Phil was able to understand the objectives of the business and use his strong communication skills and in depth knowledge and experience of Project Management to see each project through to completion.

These communication skills allowed him to work comfortably within the matrix management structure of the project using resources from diverse disciplines over multiple locations.

Phil has also contributed to the wider, non IT aspects of the overall project, providing input on business processes and best practice. Overall he has been seen as a valuable member of the project team. The fact that I have renewed Phil’s contract 4 times should suffice as evidence of his performance.

In summary, I would strongly recommend Phil and hope to have the opportunity to work with him again in the future.

I have worked with Phil from September 2000 until November 2005. Initially in Churchill Insurance Company Limited in the IT Project Management group through to when we were taken over by RBS Insurance and worked in the Strategy and Business Support area. We have worked together on projects, he has worked for me responsible for his own projects, and we have worked as peers on our own projects, so I have considerable knowledge and experience of his skills and abilities.

The company structure is to have local projects run within the business units, while the central project management group where we worked has taken on the more complex and cross functional projects which have needed stronger management. This area has also been responsible for the definition of best practice project management for the company and has acted as the centre of excellence for project management.

Phil has brought particular strengths to the group by having a depth of experience in IT which has meant that he has the breadth of skills and abilities to take on most projects. He has run multi million pound projects and brings to them a quiet confidence whereby the project team learns to tackle their own problems and deliver solutions without fuss, but with great success. An example of this was a recent project of his where he implemented the Disability Discrimination Act changes for the whole of RBS Insurance. This not only required the largest release to the internet systems that the Division has ever attempted, but also required the diplomatic skills to represent the Division to the RBS Group governance structure.

I would summarise Phil as an extremely able project manager who is completely honest and reliable. He brings openness and confidence to his projects which deliver success and I strongly recommend him to you.
